Abstract

Aluminum alloy AA7075 has a wide range of applications in the defense and aerospace industries, including for the manufacture of fuel tanks. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of filler metal ER 4043 on the AA 7075 alloy using the GTAW welding method. The test coupon of an aluminum plate measuring 150 x 150 mm with a thickness of 6 mm is made V-sealed by 2-layer welding. Furthermore, the welded aluminum plate is cut to make a test specimen for composition, hardness, tensile strength and bending strength. The results of this study indicate that the use of low current (140 A) causes imperfections in the interun fusion welding, causing fracture in the weld area due to the applied load during tensile loading. The existence of defects in the curved test specimen with a length of 2-3 mm causes the welding with a current of 140 A to not meet the acceptance criteria. The hardness value in the weld area increased slightly compared to the base metal and experienced a slight decrease in the HAZ area.
